This is the poster I created for Peter Knegt’s Queer Cinema Club, a project that resonated deeply with me. With Jarman's artistic influences mirroring my own, being entrusted to design a poster for a screening of his film “Blue” was an honour. The synchronicity of Jarman's passing with my birthday imbued this task with a poignant significance.
In early 2023, I found myself immersed in an exhibit of Van Gogh’s works in Rome. Among his masterpieces, “At Eternity's Gate,” or as it was known in Italian, “Alla Porta dell'Eternità,” captivated me profoundly. Its contemplation of mortality struck a chord, offering a reflection on the human condition that resonated deeply.
Drawing parallels between Van Gogh's exploration of existential themes and Jarman's minimalist masterpiece felt apt. "Blue," devoid of visual imagery save for a single shot of International Klein Blue, invites introspection much like Van Gogh's work, making it a fitting choice for this artistic endeavour.
